Day Three: The Colesseum

Day three of the trip we went to the Colesseum. It was amazing! So huge and incredible to think about what all happened in that building. Walking in Sonja told us that they could move 60,000 in and out in about 15 minutes. We can't even do that in Jerryworld! I just still can't believe how similar we are to those people that lived back then..we love enjoying a spectacle with thousands of other people. Also pretty convicting to think of all the Christians killed there because they wouldn't call Caesar lord.

THE COLESSEUM
HUGE
Still huge. All the flat parts above the columns and arches were marble seats for spectators. The sand part in the corner was what the floor actually was and the tunnels and stuff were where they kept the gladiators and animals that were sent into the arena via trap door. They also would draw canvas shades across the whole roof to keep everyone cool. Wish we had had those that day!!
PBP for life
Imagine you are walking through here to get to your seat...Also the arch where the gladiators would parade through into the Colesseum.
After we left the Colesseum we went to the Forum which was the center of life for Roman life from about 100 BC to 300 or 400 AD. Temples and shops and just the center of everything. Amazing to imagine all the people walking around their daily lives selling, buying, talking, meeting friends, etc. If they ever invent a time machine I am going there!

temple to a Roman god
Foundations of buildings and parts of temples etc. The wall with the square windows in the back was the Speaker's Wall and is where Paul preached to the Romans when he came to Rome!
Back of the Forum
Incredible!
After we went to the Forum we walked around other parts of Rome until we got back to our hotel which was a loong way away. We saw the Pantheon, which was at one point a temple to all of the Roman gods but was made into a church, some more plazas, fountains, and monuments including the Trevi Fountain (another of my favorite things in Rome). Then our little group walked around again and just enjoyed our last night in Rome! That night I had literally the best bruschetta I have had in my entire life.

The Italian Capitol building. They call it the wedding cake and they all hate it because it's too big and huge.

Mussolini's Palace. The balcony in the middle was where he delivered all his wartime speeches.

The Trevi Fountain! One of my favorite things in Rome. It is so much bigger than you think it would ever be and soo beautiful. Bellini built it to celebrate the water that Rome is known.

Throwing my coin in! One coin to come back to Italy. Two coins to find a lover. Three coins to get divorced. (I only threw in one haha)

That column I love again.

The Spanish Steps! We did not walk up them..too tired!

Another gorgeous view of Rome.

The best peach tea in the world!

All of us putting our feet in a fountain. It was definitely one of the best parts of the day!

My feet felt so good at this moment.

THE BEST BRUSCHETTA IN THE WORLD

Delicious house pasta the waiter convinced me to get. So glad I did!

Gelato! Found out my favorite flavor is milk.
Trevi fountain at night!
And that was the end of Day three!
